2007 Wildfire Recovery Information
2-1-1 Works in a Disaster
We know that 2-1-1 works in a disaster. In the days following the 2007 Wildfires, 2-1-1 received more than 120,000 calls. With the help of 1,200 volunteers, 2-1-1 was able to provide San Diegans with up-to-the-minute evacuations, shelter, road closure, volunteer, and recovery information and services.
Building Capacity to Meet Regional Needs
A major earthquake is always a possibility in Southern California, even San Diego. Now we have new threats, like terrorism, landslides and public health issues. These emergencies call for a central source of information where the public can turn to get or give help. 2-1-1 is that place for our community.
2-1-1 is the infrastructure of San Diego's disaster response. We are a member of VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster) and have a seat at the County Office of Emergency Services. In the event of a regional disaster, 2-1-1 is mobilized as the County's central source for information on relief and recovery resources.
