Welcome Back Disaster Response Team Members!

With sincere gratitude we thank the dedicated volunteers who joined us last year for the 2-1-1 Disaster Response Team (DRT) training.

In recognition of the extraordinary response we’ve had to that training, we are launching in June a line of Disaster Volunteer Services (DVS) for the greater San Diego Community.

And we look to you as founding members of this movement.  We want you back on June 16 for a refresher in our Call Center operations and our agency mission in disaster.  At that time, we’ll unfold a schedule of events and trainings which reflect the wealth of skills, interests, and experience you bring to this line of service.

So, mark your calendars…and check our Event Calendar which also carries directions for signing-up.

Thank you for your service…and we look forward to seeing you this Summer.

2-1-1 thanks our volunteers who joined us for the 2-1-1 Disaster Response Team training on June 18, 2011.

We were so pleased to welcome 100 volunteers from our community, 2-1-1 Board of Directors, partnering nonprofit agencies and local corporations to attend our first ever disaster response training and become a core team that will assist 2-1-1 in carrying out its disaster mission to provide the public with real-time information during a disaster or public crisis.

We would like to extend a special appreciation to County Supervisor Greg Cox and Frank Urtasan, Regional Vice President-External Relations of San Diego Gas & Electric Company, our training sponsor, for addressing and thanking the volunteers for their time and energy to our community and 2-1-1 San Diego.

Our own CEO, John Ohanian, was also on hand to welcome the volunteers, while William York, COO, conducted an in depth orientation and training on 2-1-1's role in responding to public crises followed by in-action and hands-on activities such as answering the 2-1-1 phones and navigating the 2-1-1 database.

The training was truly a successful one that created a lasting effect of a core group of volunteers who are not only energized and enthusiastic but ready and willing to help people make the best and most informed decisions they can to stay safe and thrive!
