Kit for New Parents: San Diego Welcome Baby Program
About Kit for New Parents: San Diego Welcome Baby Program
Manages the distribution and evaluation of the Kit for New Parents for the First 5 Commission of San Diego. Works with Distribution Partners (hospitals, community clinics, physician offices, home visit programs, WIC programs, public health and safety programs, childbirth education and parenting classes, childcare agencies, and family resource centers) to provide a kit at no charge to all new and expecting parents in San Diego County. Kit includes a celebrity hosted DVD on the early years, child care, child safety, health and nutrition, discipline, early literacy, and oral health; parenting advice; a Parent's Guide; a book entitled "What to do when your child gets sick"; a small book for parents to read to their babies; obesity prevention guides; a brochure on Healthy Families and Paid Family Medical Leave. San Diego residents also receive a local resource brochure to link parents to information and services in their communities; a refrigerator magnet containing emergency numbers; and a growth chart with developmental milestones that will help parents track their child's progress. The Kit is a statewide project of First 5 of California.
