About Recuperative Care Unit
Provides housing, meals, case management, and supportive services to homeless persons who are recovering from an acute illness or injury. Offers short term care to patients with conditions that would be exacerbated by living on the streets, in shelters, or unsuitable places. Facilitates connection to medical services and follow-up care to assist patient recovery and decreased reliance on emergency services and hospitals, however it is not a medical or skilled nursing facility.

- Capacity/Availability: 32 beds.
- Eligibility: Patients may not self-refer. Patient must be issued a referral from social worker, health care provider (doctor, NP or PA-C) or PERT, HOT, or a shelter who will call to initiative a referral and check on bed availability at the RCU; and must meet the following criteria: - Be homeless - Have an acute mental illness - Be independent in activities and daily living and medication administration - Be willing to be seen by medical providers as needed and comply fully with medication recommendations - Be bowel and bladder continent - Be medically and psychiatrically stable enough to receive care in the RCU - Have a condition with and identifiable end point of care discharge. Excludes the following: - Sex offenders - Child molester - Arsonist - Patients with unstable medical or psychiatric conditions that require an inpatient level of care
